Much of the world relies on digital data, so there is a real need for proactive storage drive failure predictions. Using machine learning, DA Drive Analyzer (A.K.A. ULINK Drive Analyzer) will detect patterns in drive health indicators to make predictions about drive failures. ULINK’s DA Drive Analyzer will also monitor various drive health indicators and alert the user when they cross certain thresholds.

ULINK’s DA Drive Analyzer features an intuitive dashboard for viewing all of a user’s drives’ health risks at a glance. More detailed health information pertaining to each drive can be shown on demand. ULINK’s DA Drive Analyzer will be available as a web application.

DA Drive Analyzer Features

DA Drive Analyzer’s web portal will try to predict and show which storage drives are at risk of failing in the near future. When a user sees that a drive might fail soon, the user can reduce the likelihood of data loss by creating a backup before drive failure. After seeing an at-risk prediction, the user can also choose to not run critical processes on the system with the at-risk drive, or to replace the at-risk drive before running the process, thus potentially saving time and effort.

DA Drive Analyzer’s web portal displays several additional simple threshold-based indicators of potential drive health deterioration called Alerts. Examples of Alerts include: More than 10 Sectors Reallocated in One Day, Temperature Above Operating Range, and SSD Life Used > 200%. Alerts may offer clues as to why drives are performing poorly.

Users can select various categories of emails to receive, including 1) email notifications for detection of failed drives, 2) email notifications for predictions of at-risk (i.e. soon-to-fail) drives, 3) email notifications for Alerts, and 4) email reports summarizing the preceding 3 notifications for the past week. This feature is intended to help the user become aware of compromised drives in a timely fashion. This may be especially important if users do not check DA Drive Analyzer’s web portal regularly.

Drive performance statistics are also provided for each drive. Depending on the particular drive, these may include: temperature, read/write IOPS, read/write/other retry counts, and SSD endurance used. This information may help users to monitor the performance of their drives during normal operation.

What is DA Drive Analyzer (A.K.A. ULINK Drive Analyzer)?

DA Drive Analyzer (A.K.A. ULINK Drive Analyzer) is a web-based service that monitors the health and performance of your hard drives, makes artificial-intelligence-based predictions about impending drive failures, and notifies you of predicted impending failures or possible deteriorations in the health of your drives.

If DA Drive Analyzer predicts that my drive is at risk of impending failure, how accurate is the prediction?

DA Drive Analyzer actually has two at-risk labels for drives, one that is more severe and one that is slightly less severe. Based on past testing, around 90% of drives that Drive Analyzer labeled “At-Severe-Risk” failed sometime within the 180 days following the first appearance of the label. Past testing also showed that around 70% of drives that DA Drive Analyzer labeled “At-Moderate-Risk” failed sometime within the 180 days following the first appearance of the label. However, due to variations in storage drive technology as well as due to on-going development of the prediction model, the actual performance and output of Drive Analyzer’s predictions may differ from the performance and output stated above.

Which types of drives do DA Drive Analyzer support?

DA Drive Analyzer currently supports SATA drives.

Will DA Drive Analyzer work with SSD drives?

Yes. However, the performance of DA Drive Analyzer’s failure prediction algorithm has not been evaluated on SSD drives specifically.

How will DA Drive Analyzer inform me of possible changes to my drives' health?

Drive Analyzer can send you email notifications when it predicts that your drives are about to fail, or detects signs of possible drive health deterioration. You can customize the specific types of email notifications you want to receive.
